Speech and Language Therapy is provided by our Speech and Language Therapists to children at schools around County Clare and in our clinic in Barefield. We provide therapy for children with a wide range of difficulties, including difficulties with their speech sounds, children with language impairments (Specific Speech and Language Impairment), Down syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other rare disorders that can affect a child’s ability to learn and develop. We aim to help children with speech, language and communication difficulties improve their communication skills.
Their difficulties can be big or small. Some children need help to produce sounds in words correctly, while other children need help with learning vocabulary, putting words into sentences, or learning how to play and interact with others in a social environment, like the schoolyard. We help others use pictures to tell us what they want or think when they cannot use spoken words. Some children need speech and language therapy for a very short time, while others need it for many years to continually help them learn and communicate with people in their lives. Enabling a child to communicate is a great thing. It gives these children a voice in the world around them.
Our occupational therapists work with children and young people who face challenges engaging in everyday activities that are meaningful to them. We use a tailored combination of direct and indirect therapy, home and school programmes, and our clinic groups to help young people of all abilities improve inclusion, engagement, and independence, and grow in self-confidence and overall well-being. Therapy can include sensory or emotional regulation, fine and gross motor skills, self-care skills, academic support and training in assistive technology. Our therapy is family-centred, designed in collaboration with the family to best suit the needs of the child/young person and their environment, and to support them in achieving goals that are meaningful and relevant to them.
Our physiotherapists work closely with parents / primary caregivers as well as the rest of the multidisciplinary team employed by the Clinic to ensure comprehensive and effective treatment regularly for children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Genetic Disorders, Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy and Down syndrome, to name a few.
